EagleDream Delivers Virtual, Hands-On Learning with AWS Immersion Days

With a mission to make cloud education accessible throughout the community and to accommodate the shift from in-person to virtual learning, EagleDream took their in-person AWS Immersion Days to the next level, with virtual hands-on sessions throughout 2020. Attendees tuned in from all over the world to get an interactive experience with AWS.

November Immersion Day Highlights

November 4th, 2020: Get More Out of Your Organization’s Data

EagleDream’s Immersion Day, “Get More Out of Your Organization’s Data” was kicked off with a welcome and opening introductions from EagleDream expert and APN Partner Ambassador Dustin Potter 

Throughout the morning and afternoon, attendees were immersed in an experience that consisted of a back-and-forth of workshops and labs of the following topics: 

  • Overview of Data Lakes & Hydrating the Lake 
  • Hydrating the Data Lake with DMS 
  • Working Within the Data Lake 
  • Transforming Data in the Data Lake with Glue 
  • Querying & Visualizing the Data Lake 
  • Exploring Data Lake with Athena and QuickSight 

To end the day, attendees were able to ask any last questions based on the content through our live Q&A with our experts.  

November 18th, 2020: Clearing the Way for Healthcare & Life Sciences

Joined by Brian Milch of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Spencer Conklin of UPMC, and EagleDream’s Justin Guse and Brian Alessi, attendees were welcomed with introductions and taken on a journey through interactive workshops and labs on how migrating to the cloud will help organizations quickly scale their technology to serve their patients better and at a lower cost.  

Later in the afternoon, participants were split up into two tracks, business and technical based on their role in their organization and what they were looking to gain from the virtual experience. Business track attendees were able to here from UPMC’s Senior Cloud Architect Spencer Conklin as he walked them through a presentation on UPMC’s cloud journey, while technical track attendees were able to get hands-on with sessions on AWS Discovery Agent and CloudEndure use-cases.
